I am really sick and tired of dealing with these crappy Antec power supplies. I have been seeing tens of these Antec power supplies fail, all due to one cause - defective (leaking, swelled) capacitors.
From my experience, users will experience sudden power problems (computer froze or turned off suddenly, or failed to start up). The fix is usually simple - just replace the Antec in question with a different power supply (from another reputable brand, of course).
Antec used to be a good brand. That is why we have purchased quite a number of power supplies and computer cases from them. Unfortunately, the failure rate of their power supplies is just ridiculously high. Even more unfortunate is that return-to-manufacturer replacements are generally not feasible. Shipping such a heavy object to Antec in US via tracked courier service costs a lot of money. That cost is very close to buying a new power supply. In addition, Antec will likely send me a new power supply that will very likely experience the exact same problem few months/years down the road. Hence, just stay away from Antec when it comes to power supplies.
One of many faulty Antec power supplies I have got was the Antec TruPower 2.0 480W. The culprits inside are all highlighted.
Warranty is gone, since I took it apart. Even if there was warranty left, I really don't want to see another Antec again. I could surely buy new capacitors to fix this. Still, the amount of time spent in disassembly, desoldering/soldering, testing is just not economically sound.
Speaking of capacitors, all the capacitors (faulty or otherwise) inside this power supply were made by Fuhjyyu, a Taiwanese capacitor manufacturer. I won't use their capacitors even if provided for free.
Stay away from Antec. You have been warned.
